After Dry Needling *
You may feel sore immediately after treatment, this is normal, but does not always occur. It can take a few hours or even into the next day before you feel soreness. Soreness can vary depending on body area, but can last 24-48 hours. If it continues beyond this, contact your provider. It is common to have some bruising after treatment as is not a cause for concern.
Dry Needling can often contribute to a blissful, relaxed, or euphoric state to occur. This is due to the activation of your “rest-and-digest” nervous system. You will likely sleep very well. Schedule a 30 or 60-minute treatment to experience the benefits of dry needling. For full benefits, 4-6 sessions are recommended.
Use a TENS unit. This is my favorite.
Perform gentle stretches or active movements of your arms and legs (avoid strenuous exercises/workouts for the next 24-48 hours).
Massage the area
Avoid ice to the treatment area if possible. It will negate the effects of the treatment session. Heat will be more effective to reduce soreness. I recommend this hot pack.
Avoid anti-inflammatories (Advil, Motrin, Ibuprofen) for the next 24-48 hours unless needed/directed by a physician.
It is highly recommended that you increase water intake for the next 24 hours after treatment to help reduce soreness.
